Amazon Book Sales Calculator

Type in a book’s Best Sellers Rank, price and print details from its Amazon page, and get an estimate of its sales and royalties a day — or the rank your own monthly goal needs. KDP royalty math included, so you can size up a niche before you write into it.

Amazon.com (US)

Our sales curve is measured on Amazon.com sales, so the calculator answers for Amazon.com.

Use the overall rank in Books, not a sub-category. BSR changes every hour — check it for a few days in a row and take the average.

KDP prints 72–600 pages in this binding and interior.

KDP pays 60% of the list price (50% below the store's threshold) minus its printing cost for this interior, trim and page count. A large trim is wider than 6.12 or taller than 9 inches and prints dearer.

How the estimate works

Amazon doesn’t publish sales numbers, so no calculator can measure another author’s book — including this one. We start from the rank-to-sales curve the KDP author community has assembled, then correct it against real sales: we paired 7,457 days of AuthorLens authors’ actual Amazon.com KDP copies with the same books’ daily sales rank. The public curve overstated Kindle sales — about one and a half times between ranks 300,000 and 1,000,000 and about four times beyond, because Kindle Unlimited borrows lift a rank without being a sale — and slightly understated paperbacks.

Royalties use Amazon’s published KDP rules: eBooks earn 70% of the price after a per-megabyte delivery fee inside the eligible price band or 35% outside it; paperbacks and hardcovers earn 60% of list price (50% below the store’s threshold) minus KDP’s printing cost for the interior, trim size and page count.

How close it gets

We checked it book by book against what the books really sold, judging each author’s titles with a curve built without them. Paperbacks and hardcovers: within 25% of the true figure for 67% of books and within 50% for 84% (the public curve alone: 55% and 74%). Kindle eBooks are harder, because Kindle Unlimited borrows lift a rank without a sale: within 50% for 79% of books and within 25% for 29% (the public curve alone: 71% and 36%). That is 14 Kindle and 58 print titles, measured in October 2026, ranked between 10,000 and 3,000,000 on Amazon.com; above that range we still use the community curve, unchanged.

Real sales still vary by category, season, reviews and Kindle Unlimited share, so read one book’s figure as a range. When it’s your own book, you don’t need estimates: AuthorLens tracks your real royalties and ad spend and shows true net profit per title.
