How AuthorLens connects to your account
AuthorLens needs two things from Amazon: your KDP royalties and your ad spend. Here is exactly how each one reaches us, what we can and cannot do with it, and how to switch it off.
Your password stays with Amazon
You sign in on Amazon’s own pages, never on ours. AuthorLens never asks for, sees or stores your Amazon password.
The extension only reads reports
AuthorLens Sync reads the figures in your KDP reports and sends them to your account. It cannot publish, edit, reprice or unpublish a book.
Ads connect with “Login with Amazon”
Amazon gives us a key to your advertising reports that you can revoke at any time. We never change a campaign, bid, budget or keyword.
Your data is yours only
Your royalties and ad figures are used only to build your own reports. We never sell them, and you can delete them yourself in Settings.
KDP royalties: the AuthorLens Sync extension
Amazon KDP has no public reporting API, so royalties come in through our browser extension, inside the browser where you are already signed in to KDP.
- It reads your royalties, units sold and KENP reads from your KDP Reports page, and your ad spend from Amazon Advertising.
- It sends only those report figures, over an encrypted connection, to your own AuthorLens account. Your Amazon session never leaves your computer.
- It works only on Amazon KDP, Amazon Advertising and AuthorLens itself, and cannot read any other website.
- When you install it, Chrome warns that it can “Read your browsing history”. That is how Chrome names access to your tabs, which the extension needs to open KDP Reports in a background tab for a few seconds, read the figures and close it. It does not read other sites.
- It is published through the Chrome Web Store and Firefox Add-ons, and every version, every update included, is reviewed by the store before it reaches your browser.
Amazon Ads: Login with Amazon
Ad spend is connected through Amazon’s own sign-in, in four steps:
- 01In AuthorLens you press “Connect Amazon Ads”.
- 02Amazon opens its own sign-in page, and you sign in there.
- 03Amazon shows what is being requested. It calls it “campaign management”, because that is the only permission Amazon offers for reading advertising reports.
- 04Amazon gives AuthorLens a key that you can revoke. We keep it encrypted (AES-256) and use it only to list your campaigns and download their reports.
AuthorLens never creates, pauses or edits a campaign, bid, budget or keyword. Negative keywords it suggests are copied by you and added in Amazon by you.
What AuthorLens never does
- Ask for your Amazon password.
- Publish, edit, reprice or unpublish a book.
- Change a campaign, bid, budget or keyword.
- Sell your data or share it with other authors.
- Read any website other than Amazon KDP, Amazon Advertising and AuthorLens.
You stay in control
- Disconnect Amazon Ads in Settings at any time: we delete the stored key at once.
- Revoke AuthorLens’s access from your Amazon account settings, without opening AuthorLens.
- Remove the extension from your browser and the royalty sync stops.
- Delete your imported royalties, your ad data or both yourself, in Settings.
- To close your whole account, write to support@remskill.com or to @authorlensbot on Telegram; we delete it and everything in it.
